    Introducing LCR from ACA

Post  Hugh on March 24th 2010, 7:25 am

    Good morning all,

Today, I will be picking up the LCR cabinets as they have cleared US Customs.

I had first decided to build a center speaker to satisfy all of Onix Reference (mainly Ref3) owners who had not been able to really appreciate the full HT potential due to the limitations of the Ref100.

This center speaker utilizes the same drivers as in the Ref3 less the super tweeter.
I decided not to use the super tweeter due to various reasons.

Once I got the center design done, another thought came to mind.
Why not build the Left and Right speakers using the same design.
After all, to my knowledge, the best and ideal HT scenario is to have the front 3 speakers as identical (similar?) as possible.
And so I went ahead with the LCR project.

All LCRs will be assembled here in The US and all parts will be of quality nature.

Within the next few days, I will run them several hours per day to try to break them in as much as time allows.
Then they will be on their way to Sean for No-Rez installation...Yes, all LCR will come with No-Rez installed.
I am trying to give you as much as your money can buy and as much as mine allows without breaking my bank account. Wink Smile

After Sean is done with the No-Rez then he'll be the 1st beta-tester and once he's done, the LCR will be on their way throughout our dealer team for their turn.
Once the beta testing is over then we'll go into production shortly thereafter.

Pictures will be coming shortly once I got them home.

    Thanks all,

    Hugh

There's a picture of the test mule floating around somewhere, but it only really gives you an idea of the size. Hopefully Hugh can snap a couple pictures of the finished cabinets when he gets them home. Wink

Of course the dealers will be beta testers.

I encourage the dealers to have a small gathering to listen to these.

I voiced them according to what my ears tell me but I'll need feedback from our friends to make the LCR even better.

    Re: Introducing LCR from ACA

Post  Hugh on March 25th 2010, 4:21 pm

I foresee 4 different options with the LCR.

    1. Those who are deprived of a true Center companion to their Ref3 in a HT environment.
    2. Those who wish to use just 2 Centers as their fronts in a 2ch setup.
    3. Those who want to use just L&R for their 2ch.
    4. Those who want to have LCR as their fronts in their HT.

Please note that the center is shorter (less depth) than the L/R.

There is a reason why I decided to make the L/R deeper than the C.

Thanks for confirming what I thought might be an optical illusion at first. Smile

I'm assuming the L/R speakers are deeper for the extra cabinet volume so you could get a bit lower bass extension out of them. The center doesn't need to go as low. (although I'd guess that this one doesn't do half bad in that department knowing the drivers in it)

There's one more option, btw. If somebody wants 5.0 the shallower centers might make nice surrounds and be easier to place than the L/R's.

    Exactly.

The center is designed for dialogue while the L/R are for full extension.

    Thanks Tim,

I have quite a few inquiries into pricing.

My guess at this time is they will be comparably priced with Ref3's.

    Well, a little belated update.

I am listening to the final crossover design of the C right at this moment.

I thought the previous version was good but not good enough so I asked the designer to bump the mid up a notch and now it is as good as I can remember hearing from a much higher priced center.

I hope to be able to finalize on the L/R networks real soon.

I picked up the L/R from the designer yesterday.

At first plug-in, the soundstage is really seamless with LCR playing and I was not sure whether or not my ears played tricks on me but it's definitely louder and more authoritative than my RS1K.

    So, so far so good.

Will let them play for a few more days to see how they perform. Smile

I'll pick them up this weekend then we'll see.
