I can't wait to get into some tubes. But I wan to wat till I can get some B&W 805's or some Sonus Fabers. I saw that deal for 399.00 for the SP3 and cringed. We just spent 1,200.00 on tires for the wifes car. So I'll have to wait a little longer. No

    Reviving an old thread.

I just purchased the SP3 last week. It was an open box unit without tubes. I am still waiting on the arrival of the Valve Art 350 b's before I can even try out this system to see how it sounds. I am new to tubes, although once upon a time I owned a Golden Tube Si50 mkII and later an Aric 3.5 preamp. The golden tube looked beautiful, sounded great, but was unreliable. It developed a hum that I couldn't track down (transformers?). I took it out of my system after about 3 months.

Two Channel Tube System (What brought me to this forum):
    Onix SP3
    Valve Art 350b power tubes
    Amperex orange globel 12AU7's
    JJ Gold Pin 6922's
    Mullard Reissue 12AX7's
    DH Labs Power Plus cord
    Onix XCD-88
    Stock cord
    Athena ASF-2 Speakers loud speakers
Dh Labs Silver Sonic T14 speaker cables
    Jena Labs Soloist Plus IC

I am still loving my SP3. I ran it with the modified XCD-88 and Ref 1s for over 4 years. I bought a Raysonic CD128 a few months ago. Thinking about replacing my Ref 1s with some floor-standers since I moved into a bigger room. I don't see myself replacing the SP3 anytime soon. At least not until I can afford one of those beautiful black Melody amps.

    B,

First step is to replace those Ref1 with our LCR. I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised. Smile

That price is way below my cost.

Hey Robert, I have had the SP3 for many years, running it stock most of the time... recently upgraded the 12AX7s to Mullard reissues and the 5881s to SED 6L6GCs, really helped a lot with dynamics, better bass and overall sound stage.

Ill be using my SP3 with the Stratas I bought from you, ill let you know how the combo sounds.

    Thanks man!
