    Preamp advice please

Post  dawgfan on May 15th 2009, 7:04 am

I found an Adcom GFP-565 on my local CL. I am interested in a preamp for a couple of reasons.

The first is the ability to use my TT with my tube amp that does not have a phono input. The other would be to allow the use of better cables for components with my vintage Marantz receiver. The Marantz RCA inputs are so close together that thicker cable connectors touch each other.

I might like to find an inexpensive preamp such as the Adcom mentioned above or a similar device. Your input would be appreciated.

I just got a Adcom GTP-450 off ebay a few months ago. I like it, sounds good with my Adcom GFA-545 II. I think they are great bargins. SQ is good. I just had to adjust my speaker location a bit and now they image great. The RCA's are spaced just fine. I use AudioQuest Diamondbacks and they are pretty thick at the ends. I have no problems with the spacing.

Good luck with whatever you decide. Lets us know what you get.

Thanks. Looks like the Adcom slipped away to another buyer. That's OK as I wasn't completely sold on the idea that it was THE one I should buy. Shopping around is kinda fun too.

    Closing in...

I'm looking at a Nakamichi and a Parasound. Both vintage SS models.
