A news segment this week said that "the best deals around" right now in this economy is the super-low prices of large screen tvs. They said more people now are opting for smaller lower priced tvs. Consequentially, the big screen tvs are not selling, so dealers have lowered their prices considerably. He said he found 42" name brand LCD tvs for around $500 that day and that was also the price of smaller 32" tvs. I checked WalMart out of curiosity when we were there this week but I didn't find any unusual low prices. We're seniors and my wife compared the tvs on display and she kept coming back to a 42" Sony for around $900. She told her son and he said to look up Sony tvs at Amazon. I found one that has high customer ratings -- very high with few negatives and a large sampling -- for around $800. It was last years model, 1080. The new model is about $50 more but only had one customer rating - excellent also. I also found a Samsung on Amazon.com that had a very high customer rating and a large number of responses. I always read the customer reviews. I think that's the best way to get a good feeling for the performance of the product if there are a large number of responses.
I've checked a few places that I know of, such as, QVC, etc., JR, Sears.com, Costco.com but haven't come across any of these $500 sales even of off brands. Any other suggestions?
